State of the blog: July 11, 2008

Hello everyone. It's been a hectic last few days for me.
My mom had hip surgery yesterday, and has to stay in the hospital for two days. Yes, she is doing alright, despite the fact that she is in a lot of pain. She's a trooper.

Tomorrow I'm starting what I call "Saturday Morning Interviews." Each week, I'm going to try to have an e-interview with someone interesting. They can be band members, authors, comedians, anything goes. I have a few people lined up for the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow, I have an e-interview with author and Esquire Magazine editor A.J. Jacobs. It will appear on my blog at 8 AM sharp tomorrow morning, just in time for breakfast. And yes, that will likely be the only post for tomorrow.

Next Monday marks the beginning of my weeklong "Bands you need to know about" section of the site. I got e-interviews with five bands that I think everyone needs to know about, wrote a bit about each of them, and put a pretty picture up too. I'm going to see if I can get all five bands to agree to let me use an MP3 for a sampler album I'm going to post next Saturday. It'll have one song by each artist, in the order they appeared on my blog as a free download. Pretty neat stuff!

A few people have asked me the following questions, so I'm going to answer them.

What exactly is an "e-interview?"
An e-interview is basically me e-mailing or cyber-contacting a celebrity or band member, and asking them a few questions over the interwebs. It is convenient for them and me.

Do you edit them at all?
No, not at all. The interviews are presented exactly as I received them linguistically. I may switch around the order of the questions, or make my point in the questions clearer and easier to understand, but there are essentially no differences whatsoever.

Is this a real interview?
Hell yes it is. I think it is no different than if I were to do the interviews in person. Sure, they can sound as flawless as they want, but I'm not looking to ruin any reputations here. I just want to get the word out about certain people and bands that I think people should be interested in.

UPDATE:
My friend Kaleb made me these awesome buttons for people to put on their sites/Myspaces/whatever.

If you want to post this anywhere, it would really help me out. The code is for the black and white striped one, which is my favorite. Thanks Kaleb, 'ol buddy.
Also: My best friend Kate made the nifty logo for tomorrow's Saturday Morning Interview. I'd like to thank the hell outta her as well.
